Nearly 15 thousand people die of lung cancer in Turkey every year.

Releasing a statement on Monday, Turkish Association of Lung Cancer (TAKD) said that nearly 20 thousand people are being diagnosed with lung cancer in Turkey every year, and some 15 thousand of them cannot survive this terminal disease.

TADK said that a symposium will take place in the central city of Kayseri from May 24th to 27th to enable thoracic surgeons to exchange information about lung cancer.

Lung cancer is the most lethal of all cancers worldwide, responsible for 1.2 million deaths annually.

It is caused predominantly by cigarette smoking, and predominantly affects men, with it being the leading cause of death of men between the ages of 40 and 65.

Air pollution may also contribute to the development of lung cancer.
