Spain's ruling socialist party called the European Union on Friday to continue the enlargement process to accept three more candidate countries into the European club.

"We support the ongoing negotiations for the admission of Turkey, Croatia and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia when they comply with the requirements. And the future accession of the potential candidates from the Balkans would be promising," Spanish Socialist Workers' Party said in a statement to mark May 9th European Day.

The statement also urged the Union to encourage intercultural dialogue to promote European citizenship and European identity.
