Galatasaray beat Genclerbirligi Oftas 2-0 Saturday to clinch its 17th Turkish league title. Galatasaray finished the season with 79 points, six more than Champions League quarterfinalist Fenerbahce.

Galatasaray and Fenerbahce will now represent Turkey in the UEFA Champions League next season.

The third place was clinched by the third major Istanbul club, Besiktas, who defeated Vestel Manisaspor 5-1 and became the second Turkish team to go to the UEFA Cup.

The first was Kayseripor, who won the berth when they claimed the Turkey Cup on Wednesday.

Sivasspor marked their highest finish in Super League history by completing the season in fourth after overcoming Gençlerbirligi 2-0 in Ankara.Their campaign has ensured they have qualified for European competition for the first time in their history and they will take their place in the UEFA Intertoto Cup next season.

Kasimpasa, Caykur Rizespor and Vestel Manisaspor were all relegated.

Fenerbahce had led for most of the season until it lost three weeks ago in the Istanbul derby to Galatasaray, which had to overcome the loss of coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp six rounds before the end.

Thousands of Galatasaray fans took to the streets to celebrate, driving in convoys, waving red-and-yellow flags, chanting Galatasaray anthems and clogging traffic on main streets in Istanbul and Ankara.
