The research abstract was jointly written by assistant professors, Eray Kara, Cengiz Kirmaz and Ahmet Var. Kara told a press conference in the Aegean city of Manisa that they won the the best abstract award at the congress, where 270 research abstracts from 44 countries competed. Eray Kara said their research revealed that a substance called beta-D glucan had a positive effect on the immune system at operations where CO2 gas was injected into abdominal cavity through laparoscopic surgery. "This research foresees a boost to the immune system and an acceleration in the post-operation recovery process especially in the case of elderly and overweight diabetic cancer patients. This technique also brings a reduction of the side effects of the operation. Therefore it offers a longer and more effective treatment of the cancer disease," said Kara. AA |
