Women's shelters to open in 8 cities

With funding from the United Nations and European Union, the Interior Ministry is preparing to open shelters for women in Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Eskisehir, Gaziantep, Istanbul, Izmir and Samsun.

With funding from the United Nations and European Union, the Interior Ministry is preparing to open shelters for women in Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Eskisehir, Gaziantep, Istanbul, Izmir and Samsun.

The Shelters for Women Project, an 11.8 million euro undertaking, was inaugurated yesterday in Ankara.

The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2009 and 20 percent will be funded by the Interior Ministry.

The project also involves training the staff who will work with the abused women and supporting local administrations in establishing and managing such shelters.
