A Turkish minister said on Thursday that Turkey expected Greece to give importance to minority rights.

Turkey's State Minister Mustafa Said Yazicioglu attended a commemoration ceremony in Komotini, Western Thrace, and expressed Turkey's expectation that its neighboring country Greece should attach importance to minority rights.

Dr. Sadik Ahmet, the leader of Western Thrace Turks, was remembered with a ceremony in Komotini on the 13th anniversary of his death.

"The Turks of Western Thrace successfully preserve their national identity and citizenship rights. It is pleasing to see the Turks of Western Thrace walking on the path established by Dr. Ahmet," Yazicioglu also said.

Dr. Sadik Ahmet was a medical doctor and a politician who fought for the rights of Turks living in Western Thrace.

He was killed in a traffic accident on July 24th, 1995, the day that marked the 72nd anniversary of the Lausanne Treaty.
