Turkey to establish its own Cern

Turkey will have a scientific research center similar to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Switzerland.

A tender will be held at the end of this month for institute and laboratories of "Turkish Accelerator Center" (TAC) which will be established with the support of State Planning Organization (DPT).

TAC will consist of different GeV scale electron, positron and proton accelerators to study experimental particle and nuclear physics and to produce synchrotron radiation and free electron lasers to use in basic and applied sciences.

Project Coordinator Prof. Dr. Omer Yavas told the A.A correspondent that feasibility and infrastructure studies of TAC project have been completed at a great extent and TAC project was expected to be completed in 2011.

This center would become the first one in the region where Turkey was located, Yavas said.
